Curly Cuff Mittens
Curly cuff mittens are worked top down. Stitches for the thumb are placed on hold while working. The mitten’s top is shaped with decreases on both sides and the remaining stitches are pulled together. The curly cuff is worked by knitting a tube, which is sewn to the mitten after felting.
Yarn: Vams PT3 from Rauma or Fritidsgarn from Sandnes, together with Pillpi from Rauma or Alpaca Bouclé from Drops.
Amount of yarn: 2 skeins Vams PT3/Fritidsgarn (for all sizes) and 1 skein Pillpi/Alpaca Bouclé.
Sizes: S (M) L.
Gauge: Single thread Vams PT3/Fritidsgarn before felting: 16 stitches in stockinette stitch on needle 6 mm = 10 cm. Double thread Pillpi/Alpaca Bouclé: 12 stitches in stockinette stitch on needle 6 mm = 10 cm.
Recommended needles: Double pointed needles 6 mm. Remember that the needle size is just a recommendation. Knit a gauge swatch first!
WATCH OUT! Felting is not an exact science and the result depends on several factors. Depending on which washing machine and/or which washing program is used or even with which other garments your work is washed, the result can vary.
