Carpenter Carl
Carpenter Carl is a three-coloured romper. It is worked in stockinette stitch in rounds in Merci by Filcolana. Yoke and straps are folded double, while the rest of the romper is made from one layer. You start centre at the yoke, which is worked so that is can be folded double. Here, you knit in 2 lifelines (supplementary threads), which are removed later, to work front and back piece separately. Once the lower part of the yoke has been folded, you change colours and work increases, so that the romper gets its relaxed fit. At the legs, you work decreases before you start with the ribbings. Then, you remove the lifelines at the yoke and pick up stitches at front and back on 4 dpns. You then work decreases. At the front, you work button holes, at the back you place stitches on hold for the straps, which are finally sewn together for an invisible edge.

Amount of yarn: Col. 1 (margarita 617) 1 skein (for all sizes), col. 2 (baby blue 9245) 2 (2) 3 (3) 3 (3) skeins, col. 3 (cosmopolitan 613) 1 skein (for all sizes).
Sizes: 3 months (6 months) 9 months (12 months) 18 months (24 months).
Fit: This romper has an oversize fit. The baby pictured is 9 months old, 75 cm long and wears size 12 months.
Measurements: Chest circumference 48 (50) 52 (54) 56 (58) cm. Total length (centre front) approx. 47 (51) 55 (59) 63 (67) cm (measured without straps and double folded ribbings).
Recommended needles: Circular needle 3 mm (40 & 30 cm), dpns 3 and 2,5 mm. If you work with the Magic Loop method, you can skip the dpns. Knit with a 2,5 and 3 mm (80 cm) circular needle instead. The needle size is just a recommendation. Please knit a gauge swatch first!
Gauge: 28 stitches = 10 cm.
